I do have one question open for discussion tho'...

The Ramones penned some CLASSIC songs influenced many artists and bands and we're a massive talent in their time...BUT I don't really understand what the big deal is with them to be totally truthful...

They we're never massively successful ie thru the years and decades to follow their initial climb to fame, and nowadays only get refered to for the 'usual' tracks and their distinct look, don't get me wrong I love the Ramones but thought this may be a good talkin' point as it still kinda baffles me...

Honestly? I've never been a fan. I like certain songs here and there, and I think "Bonzo Goes To Bitburg" is one of the greatest songs ever written, but they were pretty much a one trick pony, and after 30 years, that trick got real boring. But hey, they had hooks, and Joey could cover an old Doo Wop type song like few others. I always said they were the greatest cover band ever, and there version of "Time Has Come Today" is all the proof I need for that argument.

I like em' probably more than you but that's the idea overall, i just never seemed to understand how they got so huge in everyones minds eye or was it just that RNR snowball effect...

Sikkly, I think it's because they started the style that has become known as "Punk Rock" Many scribes incorrectly credit the Sex Pistols as the ones who started punk, but Never Mind The Bollocks didn't come out until a year after The Ramones debut. Members from The Clash, Pistols and other well known punk pioneers were at the first Ramones show in London well before they had any product out. So with them spawning a movement comes a lot of respect.

I would tend to disagree with you guys as them being a "one trick pony" Listen to the "Animal Boy" CD. There is a alot of song variation on that disc. "My Brain is hangin'upside down" is an amazing song that should have been a hit. They never got pushed by the label and always seemed to get screwed over

Also, isn't this the band that gave Queeny Blast Pop their name? Weren't The Ramones once described as "Blast Pop From Queens"? I assumed that iz how QBP got their name... could be wrong tho [img]tongue.gif[/img]

i could never get into the ramones growing up. alot of my friends loved them but they just did nothing for me. we opened for them one night and out of respect, i will just say that they were not the nicest of people and leave it at that.
